I’m Related to a Disney Princess: An Update

Happy Thursday all!

It’s been an exciting week over here–thunder storms galore, coffee shop dates with friends and clients, and just a little bit of balcony time squeezed in here and there. Extra time outside of work was of course spent tackling actual adult things (assembling bookcases is a stupid but necessary evil. I can’t imagine anyone enjoying assembling furniture. Bracket “B” is always missing!!!) and slaying spiders. Ew.

But as we once again celebrate Pre Friday, and thoughts turn to the weekend (yay!) I’m surprised by how fast the week flew by! Here are a few things that kept me occupied:

1) That balcony time. For real. When I first moved in January I didn’t give it a whole lot of consideration–but with warm weather, a couple of chairs, some flowers and a bottle of wine to share with girlfriends this 3X6′ little piece of heaven is where I want to spend all. my. time. And that’s ok, because here in central New York summer lasts basically forever… right!?

2) The one thing that might be a bit embarrassing about summer is that it leads to windows-down, tunes-cranked, dance-moves-included car parties as I drive. Seriously fabulously epic times for me in every way (I’ve only ever once witnessed someone having a better dance party in their car–two guys last weekend while I was stopped at a traffic light. Let’s face it, I wanted to be best friends.) The only problem embarassing thing great thing about it is that my sometimes appalling always awesome musical choices are then shared with all the other travelers.

Lately I’ve been on a Band Perry kick–their new album, Pioneer is so good. “ Take the keys to my car and the keys to my heart and just drive” (Listen here) I mean, it’s basically poetry people! ;)

3) Even with summer-y weather bringing high temps and sweaty days, I still want to be in the kitchen baking and eating delicious things. The Kitchn is my go-to source for amazing recipes like these beautiful Beet and Goat Cheese Terrines from Frances Janisch’s blog 7970 Miles. Can we just say yum?

4) I can’t imagine why this is last, since basically this is the best, most awesome news ever. But this week I realized every five year old girl’s dream: I found out I’m related to a real live “Disney Princess”. No joke. So serious. Dad is our family historian and genealogist–spending lots of extra time researching on ancestry.com . Generally the updates are fairly regular “found another relative named John!”. But this week I got a phone call with the update: you’re related to Pocahontas.*

She is the fifth great-grandmother of the wife of my second cousin five times removed. Genealogy is so. cool.

Hope your week brings equally fabulous news your way loves! I’ll be celebrating this Memorial Day weekend in style at Brittan and Chris’s wedding–and maybe a little extra balcony/BBQ/family time come Monday!

*Side note: obvs I was excited to hear this news, but on the inside I was wondering “wait, why aren’t we related to Belle?” (little-girl-Martha always had everything Beauty and the Beast**, little-girl-Sarah always got everything Little Mermaid… still not sure why). I’m assuming that Dad’s just saving that for his next phone call.

**I’m so not joking. I had all the books, the VHS, the Christmas special, the digital watch that flipped up and it was the magic mirror (OMIGOD)… I also had everything Wizard of Oz (and I still have my plastic Ruby Red slippers). I was a really cool 5-year-old.

Belle has always been my favorite but I still think being related to Pocohontas is super cool!

Martha

Hahaha… Right Steph!? I’m glad we’re on the same (Disney Princess) page <3

On a Bicycle Built for Two: Laura + David

This spring has been such a beautiful one for MSP weddings–somehow I was lucky enough to have not just one but three small weddings to usher in the 2013 season, and I couldn’t have been happier to have been invited to photograph them! Because, while there’s nothing like a ballroom bash (let’s face it, who doesn’t love a dance party!?), having the opportunity to be among a select few to witness a couple coming together in marriage is a beautifully wonderful thing.

Laura and David didn’t have an officiant for their ceremony–instead, they read their vows to each other, and sat with their friends and family as those closest to them told stories about their relationship–their lives before they met, and how they inspire love and admiration among those people who know them.

There were happy hugs galore, and lots of laughter that day–and of course, who could forget Rags!?

Many, many thanks to the Inns of Aurora for their sweet hospitality, and to The Molly MacMillan Trio for the beautiful music throughout the evening.

And of course–to Laura and David–I wish you so much happiness and love in your new life together! Here are just a few favorites from your wedding day… xo

love it! :)

Laura

everything about this wedding looks stellar! especially the venue -how gorgeous

Sundays are for Hiking

The weekend before last was a busy one. Besides a quick day trip up to Kingston on Saturday, Sunday morning proved to be beautiful hiking weather! So I headed to Utica where we all piled into a car, and made our way up north to do a little mountain climbing.

Sauron came too (which probably tells you a bit about the intensity of the hiking–and also provided endless amusement for Sarah and I who kept cracking jokes that he was “conquering Mordor”. We’re so cool.), though his participation was frequently limited to being carried over boulders and fallen trees by Dad.

It was the perfect end to the perfect weekend–lots of good nature-y things were involved (moss, trees, flowers, sunshine… and mountains obvs. ;)

So grab your outdoors-y gear (you have a Nalgene bottle and some granola, right?) and check out some of the fabulous outtakes from the day. Puppies, sunshine and all.

Sarah

Lord Sauron’s like, “nooooo I don’t wanna goooo” hahahaaaa

Melanie

Your dad and his hat and carrying the dog. I died.

Blame it on Rags

Note to all future bride and grooms. In weddings, as in life, it’s frequently helpful to have a scapegoat.

That way, at your wedding, when someone asks, “Who drank all the champagne?” or “Who ate the last piece of cake!?”  …you have someone to take the fall.

It will come as absolutely no surprise to Laura and David’s friends that Rags was present for the nuptials  this spring. Frequent traveling companion to the happy bride and groom, he was featured later in the evening in his very own slideshow (this dog has been to some fancy places!!). And while may or may not have been a little tipsy, and hogged the signature cocktails a bit (it was an emotional day for us all), even with the drinking, he was a fabulous companion during our portrait time ;)

Cheers to you, Rags!

Mother’s Day 2013

Headed home this morning to celebrate the best mamma a girl could ever have (with overnight blueberry cream cheese french toast and scrambled eggs in tow–of course!)

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom!! And a very happy day to all the other mammas and mammas to be out there! Pour yourself another mimosa, and hopefully your french toast will be there soon ;)

Mom
