Happy Thursday (and Cinco de Mayo!) everyone!
I would like to take a moment today to introduce you to Ms. Susanna McElligott. Earlier this week, while writing one of my (many, many) thank you emails, I was struck by how much I am indebted to friends, family, co-workers, and other photographers for their love, help and advice.
I recently scheduled a portrait session with my BFF (more on that later!) and realized especially just how blessed I have been over the years to have such supportive friends.
Susie, of course, was no exception. Besides being a fantastic friend (and fabulous dresser) I was lucky enough, while at Syracuse University, to have Ms. McElligott as one of my models. No matter what the shoot called for, or how tight the time frame (“Hello love! I really want to do a fashion shoot in an hour! Want to model!?”), Susie was there–lovely and bubbly as all get-out.
As a young photographer, of course it’s important to have loving parents and talented photo mentors (all of which I had in spades), but it’s also hugely important forĀ young photographers to know that they have the love and support of their peers. Having friends that are willing to go to ridiculous lengths for us just to get that shot, or even just grin and bear it when we get the itch to try a new location or a different portrait idea really does mean the world when we’re just starting out (and I’m sure, even after!).
So, Ms. Susie, thank you for always being there when I needed a gorgeous girl to indulge me in my crazy photo pursuits. I’m so grateful for the many afternoons we spent together both in and out of the studio; ever since you moved back to California, there’s been a Susie-shaped hole in my life! Here’s looking forward to our next session together, and hoping it will be soon.
Xoxo,
Martha
