O Canada!: A Weekend in Historic Kingston

Hello loves!

So, it’s been just 2 days since Roberto and I returned from our Kingston getaway–and already I feel nostalgic for the cobblestone streets, homemade ice cream, and historic walks that made up our weekend. Best of all, we had three full days to relax and unwind–a much needed break for both of us!

I’ve put together a few photos to share–to give you just a peek at what a lovely city lies just over the boarder (and only 2 hours away from Syracuse!) I know we’ll be headed back soon. Wild horses couldn’t keep me away!

Friday morning we drove up 81 and caught the ferry to Kingston. It was a little drizzly (i.e. it POURED!), but that just made it more romantic!ˆOne of our first stops in Kingston (after checking in to our hotel) was Woodenheads Pizza. There we had what can only be described as the BEST pizza I’ve ever had in my entire LIFE. They create dozens of artisan pizzas (and of course, you can always make your own!) and bake them in a wood oven. I opted for the prosciutto, brie and caramelized onion pizza topped with fresh basil. YUM.

We stayed at the Hotel Belvedere on King Street–a beautiful old mansion turned bed and breakfast. Each room was decorated with a collection of antique pieces! When we first arrived, we were given a tour (and our pick of the rooms!) We settled on a blue room on the 2nd floor with a fireplace :) The courtesy umbrellas came in handy when we first arrived–luckily we didn’t need them once after lunch on Friday!Loved the tile fireplace hearth! ˆWe loved to walk around the downtown area–just relaxing by the marina, or window shopping! Saturday brought an amazing farmers’ market in the town square, and Sunday we browsed through antiques! (I bought a teacup :)Evenings were my favorite <3
If you stay at the Hotel Belvedere, you can have breakfast on the terrace ˆDon’t you just adore these doors??? I lent Rob one of my old cameras to document our adventures ˆ He’s quite the photographer! In the mornings, we loved walking to Pan Chancho Bakery on Princess Street to buy fresh croissants–and then we’d go to the marina to feed the ducks (they ate right out of our hands!)

The Toucan is an amazing place to go for great pub food! …and every restaurant has amazing outdoor seating, so you can take full advantage of the gorgeous weather :)Sunday evening, we took a sunset dinner cruise through the 1,000 Islands (I even got Rob to dance with me!) The window was a bit foggy at first ˆ…but it soon cleared up. And we were treated to a beautiful sunset! The perfect end to a perfect weekend <3

P.S. A HUGE thank you to my fabulous boss, Jim, for making this sweet weekend possible! And many thanks to Ms. Sarah Heppell for all her lovely suggestions for things to do! We can’t wait to go back :)

Oh wow! Thanks for sharing your photos of your trip!
I’ve had the itch and want to get away.. with my husband, without kiddies, i miss traveling. Love being a Stay at home mom, but I’m still young and there is so much i want to see and do.. :)
This helped me cure that ache a bit, and live a little vicariously through you.

Awww! You’re welcome Julie! I totally hear you about having the travel bug… It had been ages since I’d gone away with just Rob, so this was so PERFECT! Hope you’re able to make time for a mini vaycay this summer!

[...] if you happened to pop by yesterday, you might have seen some of my snapshots from my weekend getaway to Kingston, Ontario with Roberto. That trip is quickly topping the charts as, in Rob’s words, “our best [...]

Wow, what a beautiful weekend. Looks like a wonderful time. Your photographs are absolutely stunning! I love the colors in the farmers market photos, and the doors. :)

My favorite summer vacation memory is of a trip my new husband I took with our year old daughter to the Smokey Mountains. My strongest memories were of the sense of magic I felt in the outdoors with her as she discovered nature in all its splendor.

Ahhhhhh, It makes my heart yearn to go there.. I haven’t been at all this summer. I might have to take a free weekend and go spend some time with my 2nd home. Your photos are a great documentation of Kingston. I love all the familiar sites. The Toucan, ahhh.. I’ve had a fun night or two there. ;D
LOVE the doors. I’ve got a few of the funky doors but your display of them reminds me of a calendar I have that I bought in Ireland. It’s of all their crazy doors. :D
it seems that you had an amazing time and I’m very happy about that!!

You’ve got me thinking… I think I’m going to screw everything next weekend and go! {Luckily there isn’t much to screw ;D }
