Among the wildflowers // Springtime family portraits

I've known Lisa and Pete for years, first meeting to photograph their wedding day where they danced the night away under the stars at a farmer's market surrounded by family and friends. Now, nearly a decade later, we're still coming together to capture new memories with their sweet little boys, Adam and Sam, surrounded by wildflowers and the tall grasses that fill the fields near their home.Visiting again, year after year as their sweet family grows has been such a joy, and having the opportunity to help document the many changes that time has brought is incredibly special.

I love that we've been able to capture the changing seasons as chubby baby wrists give way to inquisitive toddler hands searching out mud and slugs to adorn our portraits, over the years, the passage of time in itself brings a beauty to to our sessions unlike any other.This spring, we spent a morning exploring together under the trees with Sam tottering across the lawn and tumbling after flowers, while Adam showed me how to swing higher and higher and then brought various treasures to me for inspection and documentation (among them a slug, a stick, two bouquets of flowers, and a very nice leaf).

Lisa and Pete took turns bandaging scrapes, scooping away centipedes, giving pushes on the swing set, and scooping the boys for snuggles as together we navigated the energy that can only be brought to portraits by two little boys who have so much to do. Witnessing them parent Adam and Sam with calm and grace is inspiring to say the very least--and as a mama to a little girl who recently discovered "meltdowns" as a new favorite hobby, let's just say the inspiration was perfectly timed ;)--and I love that I've been able to share their parenting journey with them over the years.
